ASTRUM: utility first, then the stars
Astrum is Latin for star. For Armanie Smith, the designer behind the label, it is also a way of describing what he makes: clothing that starts with something practical and then reaches for something a little further out. ASTRUM has just landed at ANSH46.
Where it comes from
Smith grew up between South Florida and Canada, with Jamaican roots running through the family. That constant mix of places, cultures and ways of dressing is the foundation of the brand's visual language. ASTRUM works at the point where global consumer culture meets historic and slightly left-field ideas, and it does so from Los Angeles, which explains the ease in the shapes.
The design language
Utility comes first. After that, ASTRUM adds a quietly unconventional touch and then stops, keeping things deliberately simple. Expect washed textures, relaxed and oversized silhouettes, and graphics that hold back rather than shout. You could call it Americana stripped down to what matters: the fades, the drape and the proportions, without the nostalgia overload.
The brand also thinks beyond clothing, with functional accessories and even curated sound. ASTRUM is less a logo than a small world, and the garments are the easiest way in.
What we have
Our first ASTRUM delivery shows the range well. The Memories Cut Off Tee and the Everything Is Fine LS Tee, both in cream, carry the soft, washed graphics the brand is known for. The Camo Legacy Pant in washed camo is the utility piece, relaxed through the leg. And the Dream Vision Zip Rib Hoodie in rust black brings the warmer, ribbed side of the collection.
How to wear it
ASTRUM is cut generously, so true to size gives the intended oversized look. Pair the tees with the Camo Legacy Pant for the full ASTRUM attitude, or wear them under tailoring to take the edge off something formal.
